32nd Pärnu Management Conference
May 13–14, 2027 | Pärnu Concert Hall
Information on the 2026 Pärnu Management Conference:
Pärnu Management Conference 2026 – Balance!
At the two-day conference for Estonia’s top executives, we will focus on one of the biggest daily challenges for managers – finding balance in a changing world.
How can we find balance between work and personal life, team leadership and the role of a specialist, implementing change and maintaining stability, technology and humanity, as well as contributing to the organization and society at large?
We will hear stories about how to stay focused on what truly matters in a rapidly changing environment. We will explore why AI must become a core leadership tool in the face of an ever-increasing flood of information. We will learn how to achieve a sustainable balance between employee well-being, customer satisfaction and strong financial performance for the company.
How can change be managed in a way that maintains organizational resilience? We will also examine the specific challenges faced by public sector leaders. We aim to strengthen Estonia’s leadership culture based on what our top leaders themselves identified as the most challenging issues in interviews.
The sub-themes of the Pärnu Management Conference are:
SELF-MANAGEMENT
The greatest competitive advantage of an executive is the ability to manage oneself. The relentless pace, constant information flow, and ongoing pressure to achieve results put leaders to the test. How can you maintain mental and physical balance, avoid burnout, and stay focused when the boundaries between work and private life become blurred? What are the best practices used by Estonian leaders themselves – sports routines, mentors, or intentional time management?
CHANGE MANAGEMENT
How to manage change in a way that maintains organizational resilience? Today, change is inevitable in order to remain competitive, but it always comes with organizational resistance and fear. Executives must find a balance between quick decisions and thorough involvement and create a culture where change is the norm, not the exception. How can we explain "why" in a way that gets people on board? What are the specific characteristics of change management in the public sector? We will learn from the experiences of others.
FUTURE AND TECHNOLOGY
Why should AI be a tool for every top executive? AI and digitalization promise efficiency and speed, but also raise ethical and cultural questions. How can we maintain a balance between technology and humanity? In the public sector, additional data protection and security restrictions apply – how can these be overcome? How can we also contribute to societal development and solve the impending demographic challenge?
All presentations can be listened to with simultaneous English translation.

How to Maintain Presence and Calm When the Pace is Relentless?
KRISTJAN JÄRVI – Internationally Acclaimed Composer, Producer, and Conductor
MARGE UGEZENE –Investigative reporter for Äripäev
In an interview with Marge Ugezen, composer Kristjan Järvi explains how self-management is the key to success in a world where the pace is frenetic and expectations are high. The experience of this internationally acclaimed conductor and creative director shows that finding balance isn’t just about time management, but also about consciously managing energy, emotions, and creativity. How do you stay present when projects and performances take place all over the world? What routines and techniques help prevent burnout and maintain focus? Järvi shares practical tips and inspiring stories about how musical metaphors teach leadership—harmony, improvisation, and the courage to trust the orchestra as a team.

A High-Intensity Experience: “Burning Out”, Its Impact on Mental and Physical Health, and Setting New Personal Boundaries
KAI REALO – Chairman of the Board of Ragn-Sells, Estonia's Best Manager 2018
Top executive Kai Realo shares how a constantly high pace, continuous work challenges, and a strong sense of responsibility led to a situation where her mind could still cope, but her body signalled that she could not continue in the same way.
She discusses the warning signs that indicated she had reached a critical limit, why seeking help was essential, and how she gradually began to restore balance. Her story highlights why setting boundaries and practising conscious self-leadership are part of a leader’s job, not a luxury. We will also explore what leaders and organisations can do to prevent similar situations and foster a culture where health – both mental and physical – is a priority.

Is One CEO Enough?
TRIIN OSELEIN – Co-Founder and CEO, Metsa Collection AI
RINEL PIUS – CEO, SOL Baltics
We are accustomed to the business environment and the companies around us being in constant flux, yet the model of top management has remained unchanged for decades. However, there are indications that individual leadership is becoming increasingly unsustainable.
Is the Co-CEO model a solution to this, or an additional risk? Tandem leadership is not a universal alternative, but with the right partners and the fulfillment of specific prerequisites, it can offer a significant competitive advantage and foster faster, more sustainable company growth. Increasingly, global companies are moving towards Co-CEO leadership – could this also be one of the next innovations in the Estonian management landscape? Triin and Rinel will share the research findings from their University of Tartu master's thesis and experiences gathered from the practices of various European companies.

People the State Relies On: Is Work-Life Balance Possible in High-Pressure Roles?
AVE KALA – Head of the Competence Center for Senior Executives at the Government Office
The Government Office is the hub of Estonia’s strategic governance, where decisions are made in rapidly changing and high-pressure circumstances. Work at the Government Office is intense and comes with high responsibility, and for dedicated and ambitious people, maintaining a balance between work and personal life is a challenge. Yet balance is not a luxury, but a prerequisite for survival.
How do we retain the people on whom the state relies? What role do organizational culture and values play? Does family-friendliness require a hefty budget? What role does flexibility play, what is the role of leaders in retaining people, and what should be done when balance is slipping away?
In the fall of 2025, the Government Office earned the silver level of the family- and employee-friendly employer label, dispelling myths about family-friendliness based on the unique characteristics of its organization. A presentation by Ave Kala, Head of the Competence Center for Senior Managers at the Government Office, explores employee- and family-friendliness from the perspective of a leading government agency.

6 Principles for Successful Change Management

We’ll talk about the biggest challenges in managing change in Estonia, how to recognize when people are overburdened, and how to prevent burnout. We’ll share practical experiences on how to set priorities and create an environment where people feel secure even when there’s a lot of change. The presentation offers practical steps to help organizations navigate change.

Networking break
Practical Workshops in Parallel Sessions
WORKSHOP 1: Turning Employee Feedback into a Daily Management Tool
TÕNIS KASK – CEO, Merit Software
Many leaders talk about their people as their “hardware,” yet employee satisfaction results are often reviewed only once a year – if at all – while sales and profit are monitored daily. In this presentation, long-time executive Tõnis Kask explains how to make employee satisfaction an integral part of daily management, rather than a tedious annual survey.
He shares his experience with real-time feedback collection, active listening, and anonymous dialogues, and how these practices have impacted both team morale and business results. Participants will gain practical examples and benchmarks for linking employee satisfaction to customer satisfaction and financial indicators, while avoiding overwhelming staff with long questionnaires.
Attendees will take home a simple, actionable routine for using employee feedback as a natural management tool – as instinctive as tracking sales or profit numbers.
WORKSHOP 2. How to transition from gut feelings to data-driven decision-making?
TAAVI UUDAM– Project Manager at Cumultec
Many organizations know that decisions should be based more on data and less on gut feelings, but the transition to this approach is delayed or left unfinished. The reason lies not in technology, but in change management. This workshop addresses the transition to data-driven decision-making as a management and organizational change. How does this affect processes, accountability, cross-departmental collaboration, and the role of the leader? The focus is on both effective collaboration between marketing and sales, as well as the specific management decisions a top executive must make to ensure the change truly takes hold.

Balancing Employee Well-Being, Customer Satisfaction, and Outstanding Financial Results
TAAVI OJALA – Chairman of the Board and CEO of Kapitel
A leader’s daily challenge is to balance three seemingly conflicting priorities: employees’ desire for a better work experience, customers’ expectations for excellent service, and owners’ pressure to deliver outstanding financial results.
How can you maintain an organisational culture where people feel valued, customer experience remains top-notch, and the numbers tell a story of success? Taavi Ojala shares practical insights from Kapitel on managing a company so that these three priorities do not conflict but instead support one another. The session explores leadership practices, values-based decision-making, and strategic choices that create long-term balance and ensure organisational sustainability.

International Keynote Speaker: Roadmap for Successful Change – Dynamic Implementation, Measurement, and Adaptation.
CHRIS ROEBUCK – Internationally recognized top leadership expert and speaker
Chris, a BBC management expert who has helped over 25,000 leaders accelerate their success, emphasizes that approximately 80% of change projects do not achieve the expected return on investment (ROI). To address this challenge, he developed the Accelerate Your Success framework – a six-step management roadmap designed to successfully implement changes. Each step builds upon the previous one, amplifying its impact and including key performance indicators (KPIs) for tracking progress. This creates a dynamic system of measurement, monitoring, and results that supports every change.
An integral part of this is entrepreneurial leadership, which Chris first introduced to the business world. This approach shifts the focus from "business as usual" (business as usual) to "business of the future" (business of the future) – in other words, to true transformation. Chris's session offers a proven roadmap for successful change management and its dynamic measurement.

In addition, contributing to society is important for Estonia’s Best Manager. We explore why supporting culture has become a cause close to his heart and whether broader societal contribution should align with the life of a top executive.

On the stage of the Pärnu Management Conference, we will announce the winner of the “Estonia’s Best Leader 2026” competition. This is one of the most significant recognitions in Estonian management culture, through which we highlight leaders who have stood out not only for their excellent financial results, but also for their people-centered leadership, ethics, and social contribution. Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence
JAAN ARU – Associate Professor of Computational Neuroscience and Artificial Intelligence, University of Tartu
Technology is advancing faster than ever before, but along with new opportunities come growing risks: distraction, decision fatigue, and the loss of the human touch. Jaan Aru, a neuroscientist at the University of Tartu, explores how the digital environment affects our brains, creativity, and relationships, and why maintaining balance is a matter of survival for leaders and organizations. We’ll discuss practical techniques to help maintain focus, avoid “information noise,” and create a work culture where technology supports people, not the other way around. Participants will gain clear insights on how to use AI and digital tools wisely while preserving the team’s mental well-being and human connection.

Practical Workshops in Parallel Sessions
WORKSHOP 1: Technological Enthusiasm, Economic Pressure, and AI – Who is Leading Whom?
HELERY TASANE – Postdoctoral Researcher and Program Director for the Artificial Intelligence in Business curriculum at TalTech
Structural labour shortages are not a problem that artificial intelligence can magically solve – demographics, skill gaps, and low workforce mobility cannot be fixed by an algorithm. While AI can effectively support well-structured and repetitive tasks, most managerial decisions fall outside these assumptions. With the wrong objective, metric, or dataset, an algorithm simply does the wrong things faster and more confidently, potentially amplifying management errors.
The reality is that adopting AI requires organisational maturity, clean data, functioning information systems, and well-thought-out processes – not merely faith in technology. So where does the true potential of AI lie?
WORKSHOP 2. Technology at Your Service – Balancing Work and Personal Life.
MARGE VELLESALU – Entrepreneur, trainer-consultant, and Head of Customer Experience at Euronics
An old saying goes: “Up early, to bed late—that’s how wealth is brought into the home.” But does success really have to look like that today? There’s another way. In our workshop, you’ll learn how smartly chosen and thoughtfully managed technology can free up a manager’s most valuable resource—TIME. How to reduce routine tasks and keep the business running smoothly even when the manager is away. An interactive workshop awaits you, where we’ll spark ideas and find practical solutions to make business easier. Success doesn’t mean more working hours, but smarter action—so that both your team’s well-being and customer satisfaction are maintained at the same time. Balance isn’t a feeling… it’s a conscious decision!

Demographic Crisis at the Door: How to Ensure Workforce and Economic Sustainability?
ANVAR SALOMETS – Chairman of the Board, Rail Baltic Estonia
EDWARD REBANE – Board Member, Citadele Banking Group
KATI TAMTIK – Director General of the Land and Spatial Planning Agency
MEELIS MANDEL – Editor-in-Chief of Äripäev
Estonia’s working-age population is declining rapidly, birth rates are low, and pressure on the labour market is increasing. This affects tax revenue, corporate competitiveness, and the overall sustainability of the economy. Together with leaders from Estonia’s public and private sectors, we will explore answers to questions such as: what are realistic solutions to mitigate labour shortages? Are the key issues immigration, automation, AI adoption, or flexible working arrangements?
We will discuss how to keep the existing workforce active for longer, the role of education and retraining, and how companies and the state can collaborate to create an environment that attracts the necessary skills to Estonia. The focus will be on practical steps that can be implemented today to prevent the crisis from worsening tomorrow.

AI is Just a Stopover: What Happens if Ambition is Left on the Platform?
AGUR JÕGI – Chief Technology Officer and Board Member, Pipedrive
AI is a tool for every leader and specialist, but only if there is a clear direction for its use. Artificial intelligence can accelerate business, but without strategy and planning, it is merely one of many tools – and can even be used to automate mistakes.
In his presentation, Pipedrive’s CTO Agur Jõgi explains why AI alone does not create value if a company lacks an inspiring goal and a clear plan. He will also discuss when mindset becomes more important than new technology and what happens when ambition falls short – because AI may be an extremely fast train, but reaching the destination still depends on a thirst for growth and the courage to take risks.

Networking break
During the break, you can listen to a recording of a special episode of Telia’s podcast “Less IT, Please” in the Kammersaal.
Technology doesn't replace the driver, but it changes the rules of driving
OLARI MIITER – entrepreneur, AI strategist, and founder of Architecture AI
MIHKEL KÕIV – Network Manager at Telia
MARJA-LIISA ALOP – Head of Meliva
How are AI and the digital age changing the role of top executives, decision-making, work organization, and accountability—and are they changing them at all? We’ll discuss how leaders can use technology wisely, maintain a human touch, and lead their organizations in a world where speed and data-driven decision-making are becoming the new norm.

International Keynote Speaker: Why Should Artificial Intelligence Be Every Top Executive's Tool?
HENRI “HENKKA” HYPPÖNEN – Global innovator, author, and serial entrepreneur
Renowned entrepreneur and speaker Henri Hyppönen, who has been working with artificial intelligence for over a decade, explains in his presentation why every CEO should use artificial intelligence on a daily basis. AI is no longer merely a technological tool, but is emerging as a vital management tool that helps accelerate decision-making, test strategic options, and think more clearly and systematically.
Hyppönen provides practical examples of how leaders can immediately apply artificial intelligence in their daily work and explains why postponing its use can lead to falling behind in both a company's competitiveness and personal leadership capabilities. His presentations are like masterclasses that are both intellectually demanding and engaging.

“Can’t” Is Not an Option: How to Make the Impossible Happen
TAAVI KOTKA – Entrepreneur , technology and innovation strategist, founder of e-Residency and Unicorn Squad
Taavi has famously said, “Hold my beer and I’ll show you how it can be done.” In large organisations and amidst waves of change, it’s easy to leave extraordinary ideas in the drawer. One of the architects of Estonia’s digital state, Taavi Kotka, shares how to think and act in a way that ensures even the most complex ideas and projects are carried through to success.
He has led initiatives that have rewritten the logic of the public sector and transformed business opportunities. As the closing speaker, Taavi will also share personal lessons learned from four very different projects: the renewal of Estonia’s tax system and reforms combating VAT fraud, the e-Residency programme, Unicorn Squad – which inspires girls to pursue technology, and Kuri Kotkas, a drone training programme for adults.

Participant newsletter – have you received it?
Before the conference, we will send an information letter to participants. If you have not received it a few days before the event, please check your junk mailbox. If you cannot find the letter, please contact the order center by email at [email protected] or the project manager at [email protected].
Terms of participation:
All presentations at the conference will be translated into English.
The organizer reserves the right to make changes to the schedule.
A participant information letter will be sent to the email address provided during registration one week before the conference.
For any questions, please contact the project manager by email at: [email protected] or by phone at 5880 7754.
The participation package includes:
- Two-day hall ticket
- post-event viewing of slides and recordings within 30 days after the conference
- dinner on the evening of the first conference day
- an optional competition between managers in a golf and tennis tournament
- catering on both conference days
- access to the conference's online environment
Participation with a team:
If you are coming with a larger team, please write to the conference project manager Johanna at: [email protected]
Accommodation:
The conference accommodation partner is Estonia Resort Hotel. Accommodation can be booked with the participation package while rooms are available. To cancel accommodation, please notify the project manager by email at least 5 working days before the conference. If you notify of cancellation later or forget to do so, it will not be possible to cancel the accommodation.
Cancellation:
Failure to pay the invoice by the due date does not automatically cancel participation. If you are unable to participate for any reason, please notify the project manager or send a written notice of non-participation to [email protected] or call 667 0099 at least 10 working days before the event. In this case, we will refund the participation fee received or cancel the unpaid invoice.
If you notify us of non-participation 5-9 working days before the conference, 50% of the invoice amount is payable.
If you notify us later or fail to notify us, the participation fee will not be refunded, and 100% of the invoice amount is payable.
The organizer may take photos, videos, and audio recordings at the event and share them with participants and in public media channels, as well as use them for marketing similar events.
