Peter Weisskopf, MD is Department of Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery and serves as the Chair of the Division of Neurotology at Mayo Clinic in Arizona. Dr. Weisskopf’s primary specialty interests include; Chronic ear surgery (Cholesteatoma, eardrum perforation, mastoidectomy); Cochlear implantation; Acoustic neuroma (Vestibular schwannoma); Stapes (Otosclerosis) surgery; Facial nerve tumors; Other tumors and conditions of the lateral skull base and temporal bone. Dr. Weisskopf received his M.D. degree at the University of Southern California. Following his degree, Dr. Weisskopf trained as a Naval Flight Surgeon and served a number of active squadrons as well as with NASA supporting space shuttle operations. He completed his residency in Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery at the Naval Medical Center, San Diego, CA. and then served as a forward deployed Otolaryngologist as the Department Head of Otolaryngology at the Naval Hospital Yokosuka Japan. Following his Japanese tour, he completed fellowship training in Neurotology/Skull Base surgery at the House Ear Institute in Los Angeles, CA. After his fellowship, he entered private practice in Phoenix, where he also served as the Director of Neurotology at the Barrow Neurologic Institute. After additional training in Gamma Knife Radiosurgery at the Karolinska Institute in Sweden, he became Co-Director of the Acoustic Neuroma Center at Barrow before beginning his current work at the Mayo Clinic Arizona/ Dr. Weisskopf is currently the Vice-President of the Western Section of the Triological Society and was Chairman of the Certificate Program of Otolaryngology Committee of the American Academy of Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery as well as serving on a number of other committees. He has written a number of papers and book chapters, as well as serving on the editorial board of a variety of journals including Skull Base and Otology and Neurotology Open
